    Sapphire is one variety of the mineral Corundum. It is made up of 2 of the worlds most common elements, Oxygen and Aluminum. Corundum scores a 9 on the Mohs scale, second only to Diamond. Due to its durability, it is an ideal choice for daily wear. Because Sapphires symbolized nobility and faith, they were adored by royalty. And were often used for crown jewels and robes. The classic birthstone of September is both affordable and varied which makes it one of the most popular stones in the U.S.

    The range of colors in Corundum are a result of trace elements. To create the lovely blue hues, iron and titanium are needed. The higher the iron content, the more intense the blue hues.
